I den intense gyserfilm 'Backrooms' åbner en uforklarlig passage sig i kælderen under et møbelshowroom.
Da psykiateren Dr. Mary Kline begiver sig ind i passagen for at finde sin forsvundne patient, træder hun ind i et mareridtsagtigt univers af endeløse, kunstige rum. Her bliver stilheden, det skarpe lys og de tomme gange i sig selv en trussel.
